Admissions Policy
The primary objective of St. James Catholic School is to provide a Catholic education to Catholic students. All students, regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origins are welcome.
Registration of new students generally takes place in late January or early February. A child must be five years of age on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten and six years of age on or before September 1 to enter first grade. Children entering St. James for grades one through eight will be given a math, reading and language arts test prior to final acceptance and placement.
Parents of all new students must present:
- Birth certificate
- Social Security Card
- School Certificate of Immunization (Form 3032)
- Eye, Ear and Dental Certification (Form 3300 EED)
According to GA law, both forms must be on file when school starts. If forms are not on file the student will not be permitted in class. The last DPT and polio immunizations must have been given after a child is four years old. GA law requires that rising sixth graders present documented proof of a second MMR. Children born after 1992 must have completed Hepatitis B series.
In addition to the above, new Catholic students must also have:
- Baptismal Certificate (unless baptized at St. James)
- Other sacramental certificate, if applicable
- Parish participation card
Parents of new students are required to supply documentation for any medical, physical or academic needs the child may have.
Regulations governing admission to the four year old program are published separately.
