Mission Statement
Saint James Catholic School assists parents in the education of their children and prepares its students to live a life centered in the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Philosophy
Saint James Catholic School is dedicated to Christian principles rooted in the Catholic tradition. The faculty and staff are committed to promoting peace and justice by encouraging their students to live prayerfully, morally and responsibly. Saint James Catholic School incorporates the Gospel message in its program and includes the four purposes of Catholic education: message, community, worship and service.
In a Christian atmosphere, the school provides a strong educational program as a sign of its commitment to academic excellence and preparation for the future. In a disciplined climate, conducive to learning, activities are offered that cultivate emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual growth of the whole person.
Saint James Catholic School reflects a family spirit, which strives to support and encourages interaction within the community to provide for the needs of others. The school's volunteer program serves as a role model for students to become contributing members of society. Both students and families are encouraged to use their many gifts to build a better community through worship and service.
Statement of Objectives
Believing that Catholic education is a guiding force in the formation of young people, St. James School strives to attain its goals by:
- Affirming, assisting, and collaborating with parents in their role as the primary educators of their children
- Fostering students’ awareness of their own uniqueness as children of God
- Developing students’ awareness of the Gospel message and strengthening the faith community through Eucharistic liturgies, prayer services, and sacramental celebrations
- Teaching Catholic doctrine and morals as the foundation from which the entire life of the student is built
- Extending students’ spiritual dimension through exposure and appreciation of diverse cultures
- Creating respect for all life while emphasizing peaceful resolutions to conflicts
- Promoting responsible citizenship through participation in student government and involvement in service to the school and community
- Offering strong academic programs addressing individual needs, interests and abilities
- Adapting current educational practices in accordance with the philosophy of the school
- Developing skills for problem solving and critical thinking to enable students to function in a changing world
- Encouraging physical well-being through active participation in health, physical education programs, and athletic competition
