Saint James Catholic School, an educational program which incorporates a four-year old pre-kindergarten program through Grade 8, aims to cooperate with the Church and with the parents in order to guide, instruct, and form each child; to help the child develop God-given talents and to set Catholic ideals. St. James School serves the family; the Church, the parish and the state by helping students fulfill their religious and educational potentials.
The Pastor is the spiritual leader of the school. His ministry and example bring the students to Christ and His Church.
The Principal, in cooperation with the pastor and in conjunction with the assistant principal, is the administrator and supervisor of the school. It is the principal's obligation to implement diocesan and local school policies. It is likewise the principal's duty to cooperate with the St. James School Board and the Superintendent of Schools in educational and curriculum studies. She also works with the parish Director of Religious Education to enhance the spiritual growth of the students. Finally, she is available to faculty, staff, parents and students as a caring and professional person sharing her educational expertise and Christian concern.
The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, conduct St. James School with a qualified lay staff. Their main interest is to impart the philosophy of the school by developing the spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional growth of the students. Besides the full-time classroom teachers, the staff also includes an assistant principal, a counselor, a librarian, a secretary, a bookkeeper, a receptionist, a school nurse, teacher aides, a lunch coordinator, an After-school care coordinator and Religion, Computer, Spanish, PE, Art and Music teachers. Also available are: a resource teacher who works with small groups; two mathematics teachers who meets the needs of advanced students Grades 5 - 8; and a learning disabilities teacher who works with students having specific needs.
St. James School Board, an advisory board, is the proper source of policy governing the St. James School program. It functions for the parish in selecting policies, and approving programs which relate to achieving the educational purpose of the school.
The parents of our students have the responsibility and solemn obligation of educating their children. We, at St. James, try to build on what the family teaches at home. Recognizing this joint effort needed for the education of a child, the St. James Home and School Association stresses the need for cooperation between the two. The administration, faculty and staff gratefully acknowledge the assistance of this association and urge all parents to take an active role.
